This what democracy looks like: After a day of calls pouring into congressional offices, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) told POLITICO late last night that she and 9 other Representatives will file an objection against electoral votes today—but they need one Senator to join them. The vote is at 1pm EST.
It's time for you to:
- Call your Senator IMMEDIATELY and demand they object. Call the Capitol Operator at (202) 224-3121 or look them up at whoismyrepresentative.com. Call scripts can be found here.
- Spread the word by sharing the meme above and tag your Senator. Use hashtag #WeObject and explain why it's important that they speak up about the integrity of our elections.
Now that we have secured 10 Representatives, our focus must turn on getting just one of our Senators to take a stand THIS MORNING. UFA sources are suggesting that Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is the top Senator to target. If you do not live in Minnesota, call your own Senator instead.
Even if this is a symbolic objection, it HAS to be made by Congress. It would be unfathomable for sweeping election law violations across 50 states that led to election of an unprecedentedly unqualified candidate to go unaddressed by our leaders.
Jackson Lee did not identify other members she expects to join her, but POLITICO identified four who were considering challenges of their own: Ed Perlmutter of Colorado, Bobby Scott of Virginia, John Conyers of Michigan, and Jamie Raskin of Maryland. UFA is also aware of one more, Barbara Lee of California, who will be joining the fight.
